Book reviews for Black and Brown book lovers

Why the narrow focus on Black and Brown authors?
1) The publishing industry is undeniably, overwhelmingly white, from the people who work in publishing houses to the authors who get published to the writers penning reviews. Don’t get me wrong — I read and enjoy lots of books written by white authors, but there are already plenty of places for folks to read reviews about books written by white authors. Black and Brown readers deserve to read reviews of books written by people who look like us.
2) In the past several years, sales of anti-racist books by Black authors skyrocketed, many purchased at Black-owned bookstores. This is a good thing. We need people to rethink entrenched systems of oppression — I look forward sharing reviews of anti-racist books! But Black and Brown authors are writing every kind of book: science fiction, romance, poetry. I want to read and review those books too. Our lives are more than trauma.
3) In the years I’ve consciously sought out writing by Black and Brown authors, I’ve read books and stories that have captured my heart and mind, words that I can’t stop thinking about and recommending to fellow bibliophiles. It has been amazing. I want to read and review these debut novels, works from decades past, and everything in between. I want to share them with Black and Brown book lovers to discuss and dissect and delight in together.
